Master Key Systems

A master key system is a type of lock system that allows for multiple locks to be opened by a single key

A SECURITY KEY SYSTEM IS ONE THAT IS UNABLE TO BE DUPLICATED WITHOUT AUTHORISED APPROVAL

Large sites that manage multiple staff members often require different levels of access, preventing unauthorized individuals from using certain resources or sites.

At the same time there are usually individuals who require broader access, and carrying a large number of keys for every group of locks introduces hassles and risks. A Master Key System is a solution to this problem.

Master Key Systems are set out in a tree hierarchy, giving the most access to those close to the root. The further along the branches you go, the more restricted and specific they keys become. By allocating doors and assets in this format, a Master Key System can be designed by our experienced locksmiths to span multiple buildings and includes each individual lock.

A typical example would be a manager’s key opens every lock whilst cleaners have reduced access, removing their access from core infrastructure and other critical areas (e.g. Server Rooms, Cupboards and Filing Cabinets, or areas of increased hazards or risk).  Each solution is designed to suit your specific requirements and can be as large or as small as required.

A master key system is typically seen as beneficial to businesses, educational institutions, hospitals, and other organizations where different people need access to different areas. It is also helpful for property managers who need to access multiple units in a building.

On occasion residential properties want a Master Key system in order to give them one key that works on all of their doors, this is often referred to as being “Keyed Alike”.

A master key system works by assigning each lock a unique combination of pins that correspond to a specific key. Each individual key can only open its corresponding lock, but a master key is designed to open all locks in the system.
